Day /1
Delhi
Arrive in Delhi, where you will be met on arrival and transferred to The Imperial, New Delhi for a three-night stay.
The crown of the nation, The Golden Triangle holds precious stones of ruby and quartz hued architectures within its three grand cities of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. Begin in the beautifully chaotic bazaars and forts of scarlet and gold, unearthing the Arabic inscriptions engraved within the silky marble of the Taj Mahal and following the intricate brush strokes of the paintings lining Jaipur’s City Palace hallways; stepping little feet into the shoes of Mughal emperors and Maharajas.
Follow by flying south to the aquamarine coastline of India’s smallest state, Goa. Said to have once been greater than London or Paris, Goa’s Portuguese history makes it home to an array of aged Roman Catholic churches; including the Basilica of Bom Jesus, the final resting place of St Francis Xavier. Staying on a peninsula beside the Arabian Sea, you can’t help but be engrossed in Goa’s unparalleled charm that is both tranquil and electric.
Itinerary highlights:
Arrive in Delhi, where you will be met on arrival and transferred to The Imperial, New Delhi for a three-night stay.
Get lost on a half day tour of New Delhi; the first stop will be UNESCO World Heritage site Qutub Minar, made of red stone and marble covered with intricate carvings and verses from the Qur'an. Visit the 16th century Humayun’s Tomb following onto a drive past India Gate, the 42m high War Memorial Arch, Parliament House, Secretariat buildings and the Vice Regal Palace. End your tour with a visit to the Sikh temple, Bangla Sahib Gurudwara, where you can try your hand at making chappatis and helping in the community kitchen. The following day you will be taken for a rickshaw ride around Old Delhi, observing world famous monuments like Red Fort and Jama Masjid, delightfully decorated shops and the spice market. Lunch is served in a haveli with a local family.
The ImperialAfter breakfast, depart on the fastest train in India from Delhi to Agra. Visit the Agra Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site, that once served as the residence of the emperors for three generations. Your guide will show you where Shah Jahan was imprisoned and once looked out at the Taj Mahal that he made for his beloved wife, before leaving you with plenty of time to explore the splendid pavilions, gardens, mosques and royal audience halls. An ode to this true romance, couples can take part in a renewal of vows ceremony with a blessing by a Hindu priest at the Jodha Mahal temple. Be guided through a traditional ceremony and re-tie the knot with an exchange of fresh flower garlands.
The Oberoi AmarvilasThis morning enjoy a sunrise visit of the Taj Mahal - a marvel in marble known for its exquisite symmetry. Your journey continues to Alwar, visiting a beautiful stepwell enroute. During your stay head out in one of the jeeps for a tour of the surrounding villages and watch the villagers herd their goats, cows and buffalos home after a day’s grazing. Experience a complimentary yoga session or a guided morning walk with other guests at the hotel.
AmanbaghOn arrival at Jaipur, you will be met by your guide who will take you to visit one of the city’s most remarkable observatories where stars and planets are tracked – The Jantar Mantar – just next to the City Palace. Meet our local friend in Jaipur, Thakur Durga Singh Ji, over a cup of chai – the current custodian of DeraMandawa, he is a proud inheritor of a very special legacy and a true connoisseur of Rajasthan's art, history and culture. The following day, meet local students and farmers who show you how they practice organic agriculture in their village.
Rambagh PalaceSet off to Jaipur airport to connect with your flight to Goa, where the Taj Exotica Resort & Spa awaits to be the base for a few blissful days of relaxation. Your time in this seaside state is spent entirely as you wish, but we do recommend an evening meal at Cavatina Cucia along the way. The brainchild of Chef Avinash Martin who runs the restaurant alongside his wife, its decadent dishes aim to bring the flavours of the world to Goa’s shore. To top it off, visits can also be arranged to India’s first ever alcohol museum dedicated to the local delight, feni. Visit the Goan-style tavern with bottles of cashew and coconut feni as old as 1946, and take part in feni tasting and pairing sessions.
